McAllen Missions Trip '15 - Big work project (Wednesday & Friday)
We didn't really know what our big project was going to be when we arrived... but God sure showed us exactly what we were supposed to do. Over and over again, what we thought were obstacles in our way were moved.
A family that works with the missionaries, lives in a 26ft camper. Wednesday, we bought gravel and laid out an even area for their camper to be moved to so that it was in the correct "zoned" area. We dug out the old sewage line and dug a new line. We went through old wood beams and took out the screws/nails. It all sounds easy... but it was HARD work. We thought we were going to be rained out, but God held the rain back and we saw it raining all around us. The temperatures were lower that day than any other day we were there. We had breezes every now and then and those were very appreciated. Then we had to head back and get ready for VBS.
Friday, the men (minus Derek who had thrown out his back) went back to work at the house and build the porch for the camper. It took them ALL DAY. They got done at 11:30pm! But they really wanted to finish the project. It was quite the accomplishment to get all the materials that they needed. But God provided and at lower costs than what we first thought!
While they were working on the house, the girls were back at the compound tearing down from VBS, setting things back up for the Center and organizing the school's artroom. We had lunch then watched a movie. Thursday, Betsy, Kim and I went shopping for some "patio furniture" for the family. We purchased a 6ft sturdy table with benches and chairs. Now they are able to sit down together for a meal, have company over and enjoy the outdoors with some seating. So after our movie we took those items over to the family. We interrupted the boys and their building. The girls (plus Derek) went back to the house, had supper and went to a soccer game where the missionary was playing.
